3 accused of smuggling contraband into Washington State Prison

Three people have been arrested after they were accused of attempting to smuggle contraband into the Washington State Prison, according to authorities.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Three people have been arrested after they were accused of attempting to smuggle contraband into the Washington State Prison, according to authorities.

On Saturday morning, a Washington County deputy noticed a drone flying near the prison around 2:45 a.m.

The drone landed near the prison, carrying contraband, according to deputies.

1 killed in shooting on Deen Avenue; suspect still at large

One person was killed in a shooting on Deen Avenue on Tuesday morning, and deputies are still searching for a suspect.

While patrolling the area, deputies noticed a vehicle speeding, which lead to a police chase after deputies attempted a traffic stop.

During the chase, the occupants of the vehicle threw bags out of the windows, according to deputies.

Deputies say they ended the chase using a PIT maneuver. Three suspects were taken into custody with the help of GDC K9 units.

Marquis Gilmore, 29, of Brookhaven; Cecil Twillie, 18, of Loganville; and Robert Young, 25, were all arrested in the incident.

30-year-old man arrested in Augusta cafe shooting incident

A man has been arrested in connection to a shooting incident at a cafe in Augusta, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

They are facing charges of:

  • Crossing Guard lines with drugs
  • Possession of tools during commission of a crime
  • Giving false name and date of birth
  • Three counts of items prohibited by inmates
  • Use of unmanned aircraft system
  • Possession of marijuana with intent
  • Possession of oxycodone with intent

Twillie is also facing an obstruction of an officer charge.

Young is facing more charges of driving on wrong side of road, failure to maintain lane, aggressive driving, littering from motor vehicle, fleeing to elude officer and obstruction of officer.
