One Augusta shooting leads to another – one of them fatal

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is investigating two related shootings that happened Tuesday – one of them fatal.

The first shooting injured one person and was reported around 3:25 a.m. in the 3200 block of Heritage Circle.

Arriving deputies found a 22-year-old male from the 2900 block of Ulm Road who was suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

He was taken to Wellstar MCG hospital for treatment.

Officials say the shooting happened after the victim and Deunte Demario Myers, 28, of the 2700 block of Deen Avenue, got into a verbal dispute inside an apartment.

During the altercation, the 22-year-old reportedly fired in Myers’ direction. Myers then returned fire, striking the victim, according to the sheriff’s office.

Then there was another shooting later in the morning at Myers home – one that claimed his life.

After it was reported at 7:35 a.m., arriving deputies found Myers suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

He was taken to Wellstar MCG, where he died at 8:13 a.m.

Later in the day, warrants were issued for the suspect, Tyrese Artavious Wesby, 21, of Waynesboro, for murder and related charges.

By 3:05 p.m., Wesby had turned himself in at the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

“These incidents are a tragic reminder of how quickly disputes can escalate into violence. Our investigators are working diligently to determine the full circumstances surrounding both shootings. We extend our condolences to the family of Mr. Myers and ask the community to continue supporting one another while allowing the justice process to take its course. We remain committed to seeking the truth and ensuring accountability,” said Sheriff Eugene Brantley.

30-year-old man arrested in Augusta cafe shooting incident

A man has been arrested in connection to a shooting incident at a cafe in Augusta, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
