Funeral services announced for S.C. deputy who died during dive training

LEXINGTON, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - Funeral services have been announced for Master Deputy Jillian Olson, 29, who died Thursday following an underwater dive team training session at Lake Murray.

According to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, Olson will lie in state at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lexington on Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

A funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m.

Olson, a native of Illinois, began her career with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department in 2021. She was promoted to master deputy in the Warrants Division in 2025 and had been a member of the dive team since 2024.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources is leading the investigation into Olson’s death. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is providing additional assistance.
