COLUMBIA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster ordered that the flags atop the State Capitol be lowered to half-staff on Thursday.

The gesture will be done in honor of Alexander M. Sanders, Jr. and his legacy of service to the state.

Sanders died this October.

Sanders was a former member of the South Carolina House of Representatives and the South Carolina Senate. He was also a chief judge on the state’s Court of Appeals.

The governor asks that the flags be lowered from sunrise until sunset.
