AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Augusta University Athletics has announced its partnership with Wellstar Health System and Wellstar Golisano Children’s Hospital of Georgia to expand youth programs, family activities and community outreach through Jaguar Athletics.

The partnership builds on the relationship between Augusta University and Wellstar, with a focus on serving children and families across the CSRA.

It will connect hospital patients and their families with Augusta’s teams while creating more chances for young fans to experience Jaguar Athletics.

“This partnership represents an exciting opportunity to bring together two organizations that share a deep commitment to serving our community, creating meaningful experiences, and making a lasting impact on the lives of families throughout the CSRA,” said Director of Athletics Brent McMillian.

As part of the agreement, Wellstar Golisano Children’s Hospital of Georgia will present the Wellstar Golisano Children’s Hospital of Georgia Junior Jaguar Club and establish the Wellstar Golisano Children’s Hospital of Georgia Kids’ Zone at Augusta University athletic events.

The Kids’ Zone will give children a dedicated space for games and activities before and during competitions, enhancing the game-day experience for families.

“Children thrive when they are surrounded by a community that supports and inspires them,” said Dr. Valera Hudson, pediatrician-in-chief of Wellstar Golisano Children’s Hospital of Georgia.

The partnership also includes hospital visits by Augusta student-athletes and complimentary tickets for patients and their families to attend Jaguar home games. Organizers say these opportunities will help children get to know the athletes they cheer for and give Augusta’s teams another way to serve the community.

Wellstar Golisano Children’s Hospital of Georgia will sponsor a Youth Day, featuring a youth jersey giveaway for the first 500 children ages 12 and younger. The partnership will also support Augusta’s annual Teddy Bear Toss, with donated stuffed animals benefiting the hospital and other local charities.

In addition, the hospital will share pediatric health and wellness information during Augusta’s annual Education Game for Richmond and Columbia County fifth graders and through educational opportunities at athletic events throughout the year.
