Boy’s body discovered at dock on Thurmond Lake at Modoc

MODOC, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) - A teenage boy’s body was found Monday in Strom Thurmond Lake.

The McCormick County Coroner’s Office confirmed it happened at a dock in Modoc Shores.

Sheriff Chad Cox said Monday afternoon that deputies responded to the dock around 7 a.m. and found the body.

A deputy coroner was still at the scene at 1:25 p.m.

After a preliminary investigation, help was requested from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division “due to a conflict of interest pertaining to the parties involved,” the sheriff said without explaining.

SLED’s investigation is active and ongoing, the agency said Monday afternoon.
