AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office hosted its second annual Blue Line Run on Saturday, a fundraising motorcycle ride aimed at supporting community programs and honoring law enforcement.

The event raises money for initiatives including bookbag giveaways and youth 7-on-7 football teams.

Before the ride, the sheriff’s office dedicated a substation to Bruce Wilford, a deputy who died in 1987.

Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley said the event’s success depends on collaboration across the community.

“It takes a community to make things work,” Brantley said. “It’s not just on the back of the sheriff’s office or on the back of the community or the commissioners or the mayor. You know, it’s just, it takes all of us working together to reach the common goal.”

Brantley said this year’s event was larger than its inaugural year and that he expects the ride to continue to grow.
