Health expo offers hands-on look at health care jobs for local students
EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Hundreds of Columbia County high school students will get a hands-on look at careers in health care during the annual Columbia County School District Health Careers Expo on Thursday.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Instructional Support Complex, 4395 River Watch Parkway in Evans.
The expo is designed for 10th and 11th graders who are in their second year of a health care pathway and already interested in pursuing a career in the medical field. More than 400 students are expected to attend.
They’ll meet face-to-face with health care professionals from more than 30 local businesses and organizations, exploring careers such as respiratory therapy, dentistry and dental hygiene, emergency medical technology, pharmacy and pharmacy tech, medical illustration, occupational therapy, nursing, medicine, social work and more.
Students will hear directly from professionals about job responsibilities, salaries, and the education and training needed, helping them match their interests with potential career paths.
Augusta University and Augusta Technical College will also be on site to share admissions information and answer questions about next steps after high school.
The event is a partnership between the Columbia County School District and the Georgia Higher Education Healthcare Initiative.
