International African American Museum furloughing all staff, leaders
CHARLESTON, S.C. — The International African American Museum has shared that, starting in July, all of its staff will be furloughed amid growing financial pressure.

Behind the ‘miracle’ that saved teen from kidnapping in Aiken County
A truck driver’s dashcam captured a young woman running into traffic on a rural road, begging for help after she said she had been kidnapped.
“IAAM is facing financial pressure like many museums and nonprofits. We are navigating a shift in the political and funding environment that has made financial operations uniquely more challenging for our institution. This action is being taken to reduce expenses and avoid layoffs while we refocus on sustainable revenue growth and fundraising efforts,” the statement reads. “We know this affects our employees and their families in real ways. Keeping this team together and supporting them through difficult times is why we chose this path rather than deeper cuts.”
The museum said it has welcomed over half a million visitors, grown its collection and become a well-established cultural institution.
Federal small business loans open to local victims of drought
The U.S. Small Business Administration announced low-interest loans to small businesses and nonprofits affected by the drought that began April 28.
“We remain fully committed to that momentum and to the mission that drives our work,” the statement continues. “We are strengthening our fundraising and financial strategy, and we will continue to communicate openly as that work progresses.”
The furlough will be staggered in its implementation, with the 20-days occurring between July 1 and Dec. 31.
