Inmate dies at Augusta State Medical Prison, officials say

A inmate at the Augusta State Medical Prison has died, according to authorities.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A inmate at the Augusta State Medical Prison has died, according to authorities.

Officials with the Georgia Department of Corrections say 23-year-old Jacobi Chomicki died on May 22.

His cause of death is undetermined at this time, according to officials.

Chomicki’s body was turned over to the Richmond County Coroner’s Office and will be transported to the GBI crime lab to determine the official cause of death.

Chomicki was convicted of kidnapping out of Gwinnett County and was sentenced to serve 15 years with a maximum release date of 2034, officials say.

Officials say Chomicki’s death is being investigated by the GDC’s Office of Professional Standards, which is standard procedure.
