AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Ahead of Easter next month, the Salvation Army hosted an event to benefit its campaign for the new Center of Hope.

Posh Tots Children’s Boutique hosted the Hop for Hope event on Sunday afternoon, where kids got photos with the easter bunny.

The new Center of Hope will be built on Hale Street at the former site of the Murray Biscuit Company, which will replace the current location on Greene Street.

The current shelter was originally designed to serve men, long before the growing number of women and families with kids seeking shelter.

They say they are 10 percent away from their goal of raising money for the shelter.

“The center is really going to better our community and help our community because not only are we providing shelter for those families in need and their children, but we are also providing the case work to get them to the next step to get them out of homelessness. So that’s why I love spending time raising awareness for this, and why this is such an important thing that needs to be in our community,” Hannag Bassli, owner of Posh Tot’s Children’s Boutique said.
