Keisha Lance Bottoms visits Augusta on campaign trail

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A candidate for Georgia governor visited Augusta on Saturday.

Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms visited Trellis Coffee Bar Saturday morning to hear from people in the area about what they want in a governor and what she brings to the table.

She spoke about what qualifies her to lead the state.

Local groups aim to help as new SNAP requirements take effect

New work requirements for SNAP benefits are creating challenges for vulnerable populations in South Carolina and beyond.

“Even leading Atlanta in one of our toughest times in history throughout the pandemic and the social unrest that we experienced in 2020, we were still able to be successful in Atlanta from balancing budgets four years in a row to not raising our property taxes to helping support our small businesses. These are things that I’m looking forward to doing statewide,” Bottoms said.

Later Saturday, Bottoms was in Sparta for a meet-and-greet.

Bottoms is running as a democrat against six others democrats, including Geoff Duncan and Michael Thurmond, and eight republicans including Burt Jones and Brad Raffensperger.
