Cotton farmers donate socks to help homeless in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Cotton farmers donated socks to the CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority Thursday to help people experiencing homelessness stay warm this winter.

The farmers provided more than 1,400 pairs of socks to the organization. Officials said socks are one of the items most requested by organizations that serve people experiencing homelessness.

Salvation Army of Aiken delivers gifts to 4,000 kids and seniors

The Salvation Army of Aiken distributed gifts to more than 4,000 children and seniors through its Angel Tree program Tuesday.

“So in a way this is our farmers giving away a portion of their harvest back it reminds all of us how linked together we are farmers like Jeremy and his neighbors down in Jefferson County, farmers in Burke County and all over this region, they might not live in Augusta but the effects of what happens in Augusta ripples out to their communities,” said Taylor Sills, executive director of the Georgia Cotton Commission.

The donation helps both people in need and local farmers, organizers said.
