Pedestrian, 2 motorcyclists and a driver die in separate crashes
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - This past weekend was a deadly one on roads in the region, with four people – including two motorcyclists and one pedestrian – dying in traffic accidents.
Here’s a look at the fatalities:
Lincoln County
A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle Sunday morning in Lincoln County.
The accident happened in the 2200 block of Augusta Highway near Partridge Town Road, according to Coroner Tim Quarles.
Gerald Mickens, 42, of Lincolnton, died after being struck around 4:40 a.m.
The Georgia State Patrol said Mickens was walking in the southbound lane of the highway wearing dark clothing.
A pickup was traveling south on the highway and the driver didn’t see Mickens, who was struck, officers said.
The driver pulled to the shoulder and immediately called 911.
Officials say the crash is being investigated, but no charges are expected, according to GSP.
North Augusta
Two motorcycles collided Sunday on Jefferson Davis Highway, leaving one dead and one in severe condition, according to authorities.
According to the Aiken County Coroner’s Office, 47-year-old Troy J. Johnson of Pamplico, S.C., was pronounced dead at 5:05 a.m. at the scene of the accident. The crash happened around 4:15 a.m.
At least 7 dead after ferry dock gangway collapses on Georgia’s Sapelo Island
A spokesman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources said a gangway at the dock collapsed and sent people plunging into the water.

The accident happened near the intersection of Jefferson Davis Highway and East Buena Vista Avenue.
According to the Aiken County coroner, a group of motorcyclists was riding on Jefferson Davis when one person lost control and hit another.
One motorcycle hit a guardrail and several signs.
Aiken County
In Aiken County, 26-year-old motorcyclist Patrick Laorenzo of Morton Avenue died after colliding with a pickup.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened around 9 p.m. Saturday at Rudy Mason Parkway and Wrights Mill Road.
Aiken officials ask for help finding suspects in an attempted armed robbery
The Aiken Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help identifying two suspects involved in an attempted armed robbery.

Laorenzo was driving a 2002 Honda motorcycle on Rudy Mason Parkway when it collided with a Chevrolet truck that was trying to turn onto the parkway from Wrights Mill Road, officials say.
The Aiken County Coroner‘s Office says Laorenzo died from his injuries. He was pronounced dead at 9:45 p.m.
No one in the truck was hurt.
Toxicology analysis is pending.
Orangeburg County
In Orangeburg County, a Chevrolet sedan was eastbound on Interstate 26 when it ran off the right side of the road overnight Saturday.
According to officials, the accident happened at midnight.
Troopers say the vehicle overturned, and the driver died.
The driver was the only occupant in the car.
