Police chief shares new details in Grovetown double-homicide
GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - It’s been 48 hours since a house fire in Grovetown became a double-homicide investigation.
Investigators believe 47-year-old Denise Boswell and her 6-year-old son were stabbed and their home set on fire by 32-year-old Donald Beck.
Beck faces arson and murder charges.
We sat down with Grovetown Police Chief Jamey Kitchens about what he saw that day.
Kitchens said while first responders were pulling Beck out of the house, he was telling them that there were other people still inside the house.
“Shortly after that, he began making comments about you know, just let him die, things like that, which was suspicious,” said Chief Kitchens.
Beck is accused of stabbing Boswell and her son, then barricading the doors to the house and setting it on fire.
Inside the house, police say they found two knives they believe Beck used.
“They were actually discovered when the fire department was doing their secondary sweep,” said Kitchens.
Firefighters say they found Boswell and the child on the couch.
“You’re looking at a 6-year-old child. One or two things happened, either the mother had to witness the child being killed or the child had witnessed the mother being killed,” said Kitchens.
Chief Kitchens says for his team, this is more of a fight to bring justice to a mom and her son.
The investigation is still ongoing.
The Grovetown Police Department will meet with the District Attorney’s Office and the State Fire Marshal’s Office to see if there are any additional charges Beck will face.
