16-year-old Tybralyn Kelly was shot and killed in Burke County Sunday.

BURKE COUNTY, Ga (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Burke County Sheriff's Office says a 17-year-old boy shot overnight has passed away and a suspect is in custody.

Sheriff's investigators say the victim was shot around 10:45 p.m. on Sunday night. It happened at the Meadowbrook Apartments off Bargeron Ave in Sardis.

Deputies say Tybralyn Kelly was taken to Burke County Medical Center where he later died.

"It was heartbreaking," Kelly's aunt, Philomena Carter, said. "He didn't deserve that. Nobody deserves to lose their child over gun violence."

Malik Harris, 17, has been arrested and charged in Kelly's murder.

"He was laying there," Carter said. "He was responsive at the time. He was talking to us and all he was saying was, 'Auntie, I don't want to die. I don't want to die. I'm not ready to die yet.' I was like, 'You're not going to die, JoJo.'"

Family members say there were others out there, too.

"It's a hard pill to swallow," Carter said. "It's still like I'm dreaming. I can't believe it. You see stuff like this on TV."

Now, teary-eyed and broken, she's the one on TV pleading for answers and wondering why.

"I just hope they find each and every last person that had something to do with this," Carter said. "I hope justice be done to the fullest."

Family says they believe more than one person was involved in this. Burke County deputies say they're actively investigating and canvassing the area but they do not believe there is a threat to the community.
