Sentencing date moved for father of accused Apalachee High School shooter
Colin Gray facing more than 100 years in prison, Son Colt Gray expected to take non-negotiated plea deal
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The sentencing of Colin Gray, who was found guilty of more than two dozen charges related to the deadly 2024 mass shooting at Apalachee High School, will take place next week.
Gray was convicted earlier this year on charges that he allowed his son access to the AR-style rifle recovered after the shooting that left four people dead. Gray was charged with two counts of murder in the second degree, two counts of involuntary manslaughter, five counts of reckless conduct and 18 counts of cruelty to children in the second degree.
Gray’s sentencing will be on Thursday, July 30, at 9 a.m.
The hearing was initially set for July 28-29. Judge Nicholas Primm, who’s overseeing the case, on Friday issued an order to reschedule the hearing. The order did not mention a reason for the change.
Gray’s teenage son, Colt Gray, is scheduled to appear in court on Friday at 9 a.m.
He is expected to take a non-negotiated plea deal after he previously pleaded not guilty to his multiple charges, which include four counts of felony murder, four counts of malice murder, four counts of aggravated battery, 25 counts of aggravated assault and 18 counts of first-degree cruelty to children.
On Sept. 4, 2024, Colt — then 14 — allegedly opened fire inside his high school in Winder, killing teachers Cristina Irimie and Richard Aspinwall and 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo. Nine others were also hospitalized.
