AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Westminster boys soccer are GIAA champions, again.

The Wildcats defeated St. Andrews to claim the 2026 GIAA 3A State Championship.

Adrian Casas had two goals in their 3-1 win, overcoming a St. Andrews tie.

“The boys did what they’ve done all year long. You don’t get to be 21-2 and not be ready for big moments. The game was tied. There’s a lot of character to come back and fight. It wasn’t, like I said, it wasn’t the prettiest. The field conditions were wet. We have a couple guys that were injured, but they didn’t get down on one another. They just do what they’ve done all year. Fight, fight, fight,” said Dr. Shawn Brower, head soccer coach.

After Casas placed a PK in the net for the go ahead, Ryan Bodine finally had his moment.

“Ryan’s had a tough year in putting the ball in the back. And I keep telling him, listen, it’s going to come. It’s going to come. I think he had one goal all year. And I said, in a big moment, you’re going to score.”

He had the third and final goal of the night.

When the team needed motivation, they got it from the guy who had the most trust in his team.

“J.B., our captain, he’s leaving Westminster the highest point leader. He couldn’t play tonight, and before the game, kind of emotional moment, he said, ‘I can’t be on the field with you. I’m sorry I can’t be there. But go win this thing.’ And I got emotional. I’m like, listen, if you can’t get up after that, something’s wrong with you. And the boys rose. And I said, listen, when that state championship trophy is handed, you’ll be the first one out there, which is exactly what happened. So proud of him for what he did.”

Westminster has now won four straight for the first time since they fired off title wins over 2014-2019.
