ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - President-elect Donald Trump announced that he is picking Kelly Loeffler, a former U.S. senator for Georgia, to lead the Small Business Administration, we learned Thursday.
Trump, in a Truth Social post, said he was nominating Loeffler to be administrator of the agency.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our great economy,” Trump said in the post. “Kelly will bring her experience in business and Washington to reduce red tape, and unleash opportunity for our small businesses to grow, innovate, and thrive. She will focus on ensuring that SBA is accountable to taxpayers by cracking down on waste, fraud, and regulatory overreach.”
Trump considering replacing Hegseth with DeSantis for defense secretary post, sources say
President-elect Donald Trump is considering selecting Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as his pick for defense secretary to potentially replace embattled Fox News host Pete Hegseth, three sources familiar with the transition told CBS News Tuesday night.

Trump had considered nominating Loeffler as secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Loeffler is also currently serving as co-chair of Trump’s inauguration team as he prepares to take office in early January as the nation’s 47th president.
Loeffler was appointed by Gov. Brian Kemp to fulfill the unexpired term of U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson in December 2019 after he resigned because of health reasons. Loeffler then ran in the 2020 Georgia U.S. Senate special election, which she lost to Democrat Raphael Warnock.
