Fort Eisenhower welcomes new garrison commander at ceremony

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Fort Eisenhower announced a new garrison Ccommander during a change of vommand ceremony on Wednesday.

Col. Reginald Evans relinquished his command to the incoming Fort Eisenhower garrison commander, Col. Anthony Kazor.

Evans has been with the Army since 1999. He has served in warfighting formations from platoon to division level and has six operational and combat deployments.

Military members joined locals on post with fireworks, food, carnival rides and more for the Fourth of July celebration at Barton Field.

Evans’ awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with (3OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal with (1OLC), Meritorious Service Medal with (2OLC), Army Commendation Medal with (4OLC), Army Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation Medal with (2OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

Kazor has deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Kazor’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star; the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (4OLC); Army Commendation Medal with (1OLC); Army Achievement Medal (1OLC); Presidential Unit Citation (Navy); Joint Meritorious Unit Award (1OLC); Meritorious Unit Award (2nd Award); Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; Non-article 5 NATO Medal; and the Army Staff Identification Badge.

Many CSRA residents are preparing to celebrate Independence Day with fireworks, but this can be a triggering time for veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The change of command ceremony is a tradition where the outgoing commander symbolically hands over his current command and authority within an organization by passing the colors, the command’s flag, to the presiding officer, who will hand the colors to the incoming commander, thus beginning a new era of leadership.

William G. Kidd, SES, director, Installation Management Command and Training spoke during the ceremony, along with Colonel Evans and Colonel Kazor.
