Eagles prepare for season with no championship hunt

It's set to be a very interesting season for one of FCS football's best teams, Georgia Southern.

The Eagles, as we know, made the announcement they're moving up to the FBS and the Sun Belt Conference next year.

What you may not have noticed is that the Eagles can't chase a seventh national title this year.

The regular season schedule remains the same, but Jeff Monken's squad can't go to the playoffs in its final year at this level.

That's definitely a strange situation for a team so used to making national title or bust the goal, but the Eagles know that bigger things lie ahead and they're ready to make the best of it.

"There's a lot to play for. There always is when you're at Georgia Southern," said Head Coach Jeff Monken. "There's been such a history and tradition of winning at Georgia Southern. That's not something you just push to the side and say there's nothing to play for. There's a lot to play for. There's all the teams that have come before this team, the 30-some football teams that have worn the blue and white. We're playing for them too."

Georgia Southern already started a big time stadium renovation in order to get Paulson Stadium up to FBS specifications. They make the move next year and become bowl eligible in 2015.
