AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- The University of South Carolina Aiken posted a 6-4 win in the regular-season finale over Young Harris Sunday afternoon after completing the halted game from Saturday evening.
USC Aiken lost the second game of the series 2-1.
The Pacers wrapped up the regular season with a record of 29-21 overall, including an 18-12 ledger in PBC play. The 18 victories pushed USC Aiken to the No. 3 seed in the upcoming PBC Tournament.
After picking up where the teams left off Saturday evening in the second game of the series, Luke Leisenring finished his at bat by blasting a pitch to right field, plating Jackson Hannon for a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
The Mountain Lions struck for a pair of runs in the seventh for a 2-1 advantage.
USC Aiken threatened in the ninth. Brady O'Neil registered a pinch hit single. Andre Brown III came in as a pinch runner and moved to second when Hannon walked. Chandler Rogers walked on four straight to load the bases with two away. However, Leisenring's hard-hit ball up the middle was snagged by the shortstop, who touched second base for the final out of the game.
For the contest, Leisenring and Rogers had two hits apiece. Leisenring drove in the team's lone run. Alex Mills, Sean McQuillan, Brady O'Neil and Joey Smithers all had a hit in the game.
On the mound, Zach Rafuse did not get a decision while striking out six in five innings of work. Jon Yarbrough, Austin Sandifer and Daniel Wiggins had a strikeout apiece on the bump.
In the final regular-season game, USC Aiken drew three consecutive walks in the bottom of the first frame. Conner Durden was hit by a pitch, pushing across Hannon for a 1-0 advantage.
Down 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Pacers knotted the contest by scoring three runs. Scott Huntley earned a full-count walk before racing to second on a base knock from Sean McQuillan. Hannon's single made it 4-2. With the bases loaded, Durden reached on a fielder's choice that scored McQuillan. Smithers rocketed a single to left field, allowing Hannon to score to make it 4-4.
With the score tied in the bottom of the eighth, Hannon ripped a pitch to left field and moved to second on a one-out walk to Leisenring. After falling behind 0-2, Durden garnered a base hit to right field, scoring Hannon to give USC Aiken a 5-4 advantage. Smithers laid down a bunt toward the first base line, plating Leisenring for a two-run margin.
Henry Cartrett picked up the win after working the final two innings. He struck out three batters. Garvin Alston Jr. got the start and worked five innings. He struck out four. William Ard went an inning as did Lindsey Robinson Jr. Ard had one strikeout while Robinson Jr. accounted for two.
At the plate, Hannon posted three hits, drove in one and scored three times. Smithers and McQuillan had two hits apiece. Smithers drove in two while McQuillan scored once. Durden had one hit and drove in three. Leisenring and Rogers had a hit apiece.
The PBC will announce the full tournament schedule on Monday.
