Pacers Claim Series Finale Against Rams

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team picked up an 11-3 victory over Shepherd in the series finale Sunday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 6-1 on the season while the Rams fall to 0-6.

The victory marked head coach Kenny Thomas' 700th win at the helm of the squad.

USC Aiken jumped on top in the first with two runs and never looked back. Joey Smithers led off the frame with a single and swiped second. With two on, Conner Durden singled, plating Smithers. Luke Leisenring brought home Alex Mills for a 2-0 edge.

Durden led off the third with a walk and he was able to take his time coming around to score when Leisenring smashed a two-run shot over the right field fence for a 4-0 advantage.

Philip Watcher singled home Smithers in the fourth for a 5-0 edge. Two batters later, Watcher scored on a passed ball. Blake Jenkins brought Mills home with a base hit to left field. Chandler Rogers lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Durden for an 8-0 margin.

In the fifth, Mills singled home Sean McQuillan. With the bases loaded, Leisenring was hit by a pitch, driving in Watcher for a 10-0 score. Blake Jenkins reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Mills to score.

The Rams would get on the board late in the contest.

For the game, Smithers led the way with three hits while scoring a pair of runs. Durden, Leisenring and McQuillan notched two hits apiece. Leisenring garnered four RBI while Jenkins accounted for two RBI.

On the bump, Garvin Alston Jr. picked up the win after throwing five scoreless frames. He gave up five hits and struck out six. Hunter Shuff tossed two innings, striking out two. Cameron Nolet worked two-thirds of a frame while Lindsey Robinson Jr. closed out the game by working 1.1 innings.

The Pacers return to action Friday when they host Florida Southern at 4 p.m.
