EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- It's been a long time coming, but Lakeside finally put its brand new track to use, as the Panthers hosted their first event of the year.
On hand for the inaugural meet -- Reese Hoffa.
The meet is actually named after him. Hoffa is one of Lakeside's most decorated track and field alumns.
He competed in shot put at Georgia and in the Olympics three times, including 2012, where he won bronze in the event.
Now, Hoffa's back at his old stomping grounds for the ribbon cutting ceremony and is greatful for the big honor.
"Very humbling. I guess it just lets me know that I've been around for a long time. Hopefully I've touched a lot of lives as a track and field athlete," Hoffa said. "Hopefully I've inspired a lot of lives as a track and field athlete that it doesn't matter where you come from, you can accomplish anything."
Lakeside will also retire Hoffa's jersey.
