Jags T4 To Open Valspar Augusta Invitational

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University women’s golf team began hosting duties of its 14th annual home event on Saturday at the Valspar Augusta Invitational. After two rounds and 36 holes of action, Augusta is tied for fourth with Memphis at even par.

The Jaguars' home tournament features 12 Division-I teams who are battling in the two-day event. The 2019 field includes Augusta, Central Arkansas, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Daytona State, East Tennessee State, Memphis, Princeton, Purdue, South Florida, Texas Tech, and Toledo.

No. 31 Texas Tech leads the tournament through two rounds at 14-under-par, while No. 33 Purdue is second (-8), Charlotte third (-4), and Augusta and Memphis fifth.

AU’s starting five consists of juniors Charlotte Alran and Linda Lundqvist, sophomore Teresa Diez-Moliner, and seniors Cecilia Diez-Moliner and Maggie Ashmore. Freshman Natalia Yoko, sophomore Nicole Page, and senior Sarah Tychsen are competing as individuals.

The Jaguars trailed No. 31 Texas Tech by one shot after round one and moved to a tie for fourth in round two. Alran and Ashmore are each tied for 10th at 1-under-par heading into Sunday’s final outing. Lundqvist is tied for 19th (+1), while C. Diez-Moliner is tied for 23rd (+2) and T. Diez-Moliner tied for 42nd. (+7). Ashmore and C. Diez-Moliner each fired a 70 (-2) for AU’s lowest score of day one.

Teams return to Forest Hills on Sunday, March 17 for round three of the Valspar Augusta Invitational.
