AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Augusta University men’s basketball team hosted the North Georgia Nighthawks on Saturday afternoon for a Peach Belt Conference game. Augusta avenged an early season loss to UNG with an 85-73 victory in Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Five Jaguars scored in double figures, with freshman Tyree Myers scoring a team-best 21 points with three steals and two assists. Myers has only missed one field-goal shot in the last two outings. Senior Tyvez Monroe scored 16 for the Jaguars, freshman Miguel Arnold 12 points, and senior Deane Williams added 15 points and nine rebounds. Jags junior Rafael Monteiro added 10 points and five boards.

AU was near perfect from the free-throw line – only missing one at the charity stripe. Augusta also hit five more three pointers than the Nighthawks. UNG hit the first two baskets of the game, but Williams found Monroe wide open on the three-point line as AU took over 7-6 in the early possessions. The Jags led the Nighthawks 44-37 at halftime and were up by 14 at one point.

The lead and momentum never left Augusta’s side and they went on to win 85-73.

Augusta hosts Young Harris College on Monday, Jan. 21 for a 3:30 p.m. PBC tipoff. The Jags meet rival USC Aiken on Wednesday, Jan. 30 for a PBC rivalry showdown in Augusta, Ga., at 7:30 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
