GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- It's becoming more commonplace for freshmen to compete on high school varsity teams.

But, it's still a rare sight to see a young athlete making such a huge impact, early in their career. Grovetown freshman, Madison Kennedy is showing that age is nothing but a number.

Her talent speaks for itself -- she's already broken three school records in distance running -- which include the mile and two mile race in track and field, and the 5K in cross country.

Kennedy also ranks among some of the top runners in Georgia's Class 6A.

The freshman says she's able to compete at a high level against older athletes, because she practices hard.

"It takes heart and guts and all of the miles and hours that you put in." Kennedy said.

"Madison has a wonderful work ethic. You know that everytime you put a work out out there, she's going to go 100 percent and probably a littel bit beyond that as well. She's got a fantastic path ahead of her with that work ethic," Grovetown coach, Tony Walsh said.

Kennedy says when she starts to get a little tired while training, she leans on the inspirational quote -- pain is temporary.
