EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- When Greenbrier pitcher, Avery Boyd steps on the mound, he thinks of his mom.
"I'm out there, doing what she wanted me to do. She's always by my side," Avery Boyd said.
Suiting up for the Wolfpack, is a dream both he and his mom, Cindy shared.
"It's great because, I know she'd be happy for me right now." Boyd said.
She introduced him to the game, and was his biggest fan.
But, sadly, cindy lost her battle with cancer, when avery was only 11 years old. Now he plays to honor her.
"I usually just write the day that she died in my hat and in my glove and everything like that," Boyd said.
Avery's found success as one of Greenbrier's starting pitchers.
"Just doing my part, pitching, getting outs, is what really helps out," Avery Boyd said.
"He's a hard worker. He comes to the ball park every day and gives us his best effort. That's what we ask of all of our guys every day." head coach, David Barnes said.
Giving his all for his team, his coaches and most importantly, him mom.
