THOMSON, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT)-- A student brought a weapon to Thomson-McDuffie Middle School on Thursday. Officials say the weapon was never used in a threatening manner, and an investigation was immediately launched.
Thursday morning, a school administrator got a tip the student had a weapon. School officials notified McDuffie County Schools Department of Public Safety to respond. Administration and resource officers questioned the student which led to the the confiscation of the weapon.
In a Thursday press release, McDuffie County Schools said in part:
As with all matters of student safety, we have taken this very seriously and have acted accordingly, utilizing both the code of conduct and the appropriate laws. The school administrative team, in collaboration with the district office and the McDuffie County Schools Department of Public Safety, is working to maintain the safety and the normal operations throughout the remainder of the school day. Please encourage your child to let an adult know if a situation exists which could compromise his/her safety. If you see something, say something. As always, the safety and security of the students, faculty and staff members remain our top priority, and we will take the necessary steps to ensure a safe and secure learning environment.
