Wendi Nelson, shown here dragging a child from her seat, has been charged with five counts of unlawful conduct toward a child.
NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WRDW/WAGT) -- We're getting our first look at the videos that may have helped bring charges against a North Augusta daycare employee.
Nelson is a former employee at True Foundations Learning Center on Martintown Road.
Videos from the daycare show various incidents involving five children between 3 and 4 years old.
One recorded incident shows the children getting ready for lunch. Video shows Nelson getting frustrated at one little girl by bending down and yelling in her face. Minutes later, the video shows, Nelson grabs the child by the arm and pulls her off her seat.
Another recorded incident shows Nelson getting a group of children ready for nap time. One of the children's feet appears to be in Nelson's way, the video shows, so she kicks him.
A third incident, which we cannot show you, appears to show Nelson picking up a child by his pants, causing his head to hit the tile floor -- leaving him in tears.
Management was alerted to the incidents and took immediate action to fire Nelson and alert DSS and police to what happened.
True Foundations Director Tina Camp has been finding more video of Nelson allegedly abusing kids at the center.
"All I can say is evil," Camp said, describing the alleged actions of Nelson. "Evil. There is no other word. It was evil."
Nelson was working at Family Affair, another daycare in North Augusta, when she was arrested.
According to the incident report, Nelson told deputies that she "did not remember any of the incidents" officers were referring to during her arrest.
Camp, meanwhile, is dealing with the fallout of the incidents.
"I looked at it as a huge bully," Camp said. "Just overshadowing the little people, and terrorizing them for no reason "
Unfortunately, it's difficult to track daycare workers' records. We've learned that if a daycare reports a worker, the daycare receives the citation. That's often why workers may not have a documented history of problems.
More charges are expected because Camp handed off additional video clips to police.
Camp released an additional statement after the videos were released.
"It was not True Foundations Learning Center that abused the children," Camp said. "It was Wendi Nelson."
