Traffic stop leads to chase, K-9 drug arrest in Burke County

BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A man is behind bars on drug and theft charges after being caught during a routine traffic stop.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office says one of their deputies pulled a car over for a seatbelt violation Friday night. When the car stopped, Yashua Coleman got out of the car and ran.

Coleman was quickly caught and arrested while a K-9 deputy, Leo, found drugs and a gun that had been reported stolen in Richmond County in the suspect's car.

The suspect had $1,400 cash on him and that was taken by deputies because he violated Georgia's Controlled Substance Act.

Coleman is charged with Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime, Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, Possession of Hydrocodone, Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer, and a Misdemeanor citation for a seatbelt violation.

Coleman is being held in the Burke County Detention Center.
