COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WRDW/WAGT) – If you’re trying to get the kids outside this summer, the park is always a good free option. But three Columbia County parks are under construction.

Patriots Park, Gateway Park, and Lakeside Park are all having work done.

A mom of two, Meg Jepsen relies on the parks to entertain the little ones. While Evans Towne Center is bustling, the others need some work.

"We bring our lunch here a lot, especially when we're all together and we'll spend four or five hours here just enjoying the sunshine, the friends and cooling off with the fountain,” Jepsen said. “That's a big plus for us."

Patriots Park is expanding, adding four new soccer fields and 400 parking spaces. Gateway Park is brand new. Lakeside Park will have walking paths and more recreation sports.

"I think having more parks and more activities for the kids to spread their wings, stay active, I think that's more important,” Jepsen said.

And if that wasn't enough, there’s something else to look forward to: another park in Columbia County, this time at the Plaza. They won't start construction on that until the Performing Arts Center is finished so you can expect that late summer or early fall of 2020.
