UPDATE | Man dead after crash on I-20

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) -- According to the Aiken County Coroner's Office, a man has died after an accident on I-20 on Sunday.

34-year-old Charles Starnes was pronounced dead today at Augusta University Medical Center.

The cause of death has not been determined at this time.

News 12 has received new details from SCHP after an accident on I-20 EB in between Exit 1 and Exit 5.

Officials say the accident happened just after 5:00 p.m. when a 2004 Ford Taurus was driving eastbound on I-20. An 18-wheeler was pulled over on the shoulder, when the Taurus hit the back of the 18-wheeler.

The driver of the Taurus was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.

All lanes are back open at this time as crews remove damaged vehicles from the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol tells us both lanes of I-20 EB near Mile Marker 3 in North Augusta are closed due to an accident involving an 18-wheeler and another vehicle.

News 12 has a crew on the way to the scene who tells us traffic is being rerouted at Exit 1. More details to come.
