AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- When they get to Augusta National, a lot of patrons head straight across the course to hole number 16. There's something rowdy and fun going on, something you can hear all over the golf course.

More than anything tradition matters at Augusta National.

"You gonna catch the par 3? Yeah," said Gary Kavanaugh.

But few traditions stand out more than this one.

"Get in get in oh!" said Kavanaugh.

This is what brought Gary Kavanaugh to this very spot off the 16th green, all the way from Canada.

"They're going at the same time! Wow! Yeah!" said Kavanaugh.

No one's really sure when skipping the ball across the pond at 16 during practice rounds started, but there's just something about seeing that little white ball bounce effortlessly across the water.

"Yeah seen some really great shots," said Kavanaugh.

The heads turn one way, then another, and then the crowd’s reaction is priceless.

"Oh nice!" said Kavanaugh.

A roar so loud, you know something magical is happening even from the clubhouse. Don Barr, who is visiting from Canada, got a front row seat.

"Its, it's a pretty special place. Yeah," said Barr.

And for Don, it’s pretty unforgettable.

"I've been watching this tournament with my dad since I was 5 years old. Just to be here is pretty awesome," said Barr.

Who knew something so simple, skipping the ball across the pond, could mean so much.

"Yeah it's just a pretty special place," said Barr.
