Richmond Co. teen drowning victim identified

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT)— The teen who drowned in the river just off Alberclauss Drive has been identified.

The Richmond County Coroner says Antonio Freeman jumped into the river at a family gathering Saturday night but did not come back up alive. The 17-year-old jumped in with his friends when he began to struggle and went under.

Rescue crews were called to the river  for search efforts about 9:15 p.m. The Dive Team found his body and the coroner pronounced Freeman dead at 11:30 p.m.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
