AUGUSTA, GA (WRDW/WAGT) -- A 28-year-old step-father allegedly beat a child so severely that the child was having trouble sitting down at school, according to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office incident report.

Deputies arrested Brandon Jones and charged him with two counts of first degree cruelty to children in this case.

According to the incident report, deputies were called to Barton Chapel Elementary School on March 6 after a child was seen "sitting uncomfortably" in his chair.

"When he was asked about it," the report said, "he advised to his teacher that he was in pain."

The report says school staff saw "multiple welts, open lacerations, bruising, and swelling" on the child.

Deputies found the child's sister and found similar injuries on her.

The report says both children said their injuries were from Jones, who was listed as their step-father.

Both children were taken to Augusta University Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.

The investigation in this case continues.
