(WRDW/WAGT) -- Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is calling Georgia's recently signed heartbeat law a "backdoor ban" on abortion.

The bill, signed by Gov. Brian Kemp on Tuesday, looks to outlaw abortions at around the 6-week mark, or when a fetal heartbeat is first heard by doctors.

Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to criticize the law.

Georgia's bill is one of a handful of similar bills being passed in different states across the country in recent years.
