(CNN) -- A make-shift armory was uncovered in a ritzy Los Angeles neighborhood.
"Pistols, rifles, shotguns, assault weapons. All types of calibers, all types of makes, all types of models,” said Lt. Chris Ramirez with the LAPD said.
More than 1,000 weapons found inside a house in the Holmby Hills area.
"I've never seen so many weapons in my career of 31 years,” Ramirez said. “Such a big arsenal in a residence in this type of neighborhood is kind of astounding."
A spokeswoman for the ATF says authorities received an anonymous tip about a person selling firearms illegally.
Tools and equipment to manufacture firearms were also found inside the residence.
"Ammunition was piled up in several parts of the rooms, weapons were laid out on the floor,” Ramirez said.
Police arrested one man Wednesday, accused of violating California penal code 30600, which forbids the making and selling of assault rifles.
"This neighborhood is now very clear of these weapons, weapons that could have ended up in the wrong hands,” Ramirez said.
The investigation into this matter is underway and is expected to be lengthy.
"They're going to run every serial number and find out the history of each weapon so that's going to take a tedious amount of time,” Ramirez said.
