AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Cars aren't the only extra traffic along Washington Road. It's become a bit of a tradition to see golf carts in front businesses too.
Now, Augusta is looking to bring golf cart tours to the city.
"It's nothing in the world like the Masters week in Augusta,” said Jefferson Moss.
It's the most wonderful time of the year. So much so the city of Augusta wanted to give us a little piece of it year round.
The new ordinance reads "Whereas Augusta is the golf cart capital of the world" "Commission seeks to expand the use of such vehicles."
Being mobile is something Jefferson Moss is all about. Golf cart tours would bring more people to his business at a faster pace and if it’s Masters week business will boom.
"Amen, it's like Superbowl,” said Moss.
If this is any indication of what year-round business could be like with the change, he's all in favor of the tours.
“You don’t just get what’s available to you. Can branch out and come a little further down the street. Who knows you might run into me,” said Moss.
The Convention and Visitor Bureau is working to eventually bring tours to many busy areas including downtown.
The goal was to have them available this year during Masters but plans did not come together in time.
City officials are working to make it happen soon so that we don't have to wait until the next most wonderful time of the year.
Augusta Commission voted to pass the golf cart ordinance last year. It only affects certain roads and sections of the city, like streets off of Washington Road and portions of downtown. As soon as we know when the tours are available, we'll update you.
