News 12 this Morning
AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Earlier in the week we told you about two students in Columbia County who never missed a day of school.
Well it turns out, one special Richmond County student is being recognized for the same thing, but the person who presented her with the award is just as unique.
It's not every day you meet someone who has never missed a day of school since kindergarten. However, for senior Chynna Brown, it doesn't seem too foreign.
"It feels good to be the only one who has perfect attendance, to stand out. My mom instilled in me at a young age that attendance is very important so, I got adjusted to the system," Chynna explains.
Chynna says even after being recognized for her rare accomplishment many of her peers still couldn't believe it.
"How can you tell me what I did or didn't do? Look I'm here every day when you're not here, you don't know if I'm here or not. If I'm not here I'm exempt because, I am a school athlete," she says in response to those questioning her attendance.
There is one person in her school who knows just how realistic it is.
"Many years ago I graduated and received that same recognition from our district so the feeling when everybody goes '**gasp**'. The whole James Brown Arena or Civic Center just gasp," says, Cross Creek Principal, Glenda Collingsworth, as she reminisces on being presented the same award while attending Richmond County schools.
So for Chynna when the going got rough she didn't just have her real mom holding her accountable but, her school mom.
Chynna tells News 12 she's still in awe that someone else is just as dedicated to showing up to school as she is.
"Wow, we are like twins, we both didn't miss any days. I thought I was the only one."
Chynna will be honored again for her accomplishment at Cross Creek's commencement later on this month.
