AUGUSTA, GA (WRDW/WAGT) -- The Chicken Sandwich Wars are heating up, and residents of Augusta, Georgia are part of Ground Zero.

McDonald's is going into the Garden City to test a brand new sandwich that definitely looks like it's trying to take on every Southerner's favorite restaurant: Chick-Fil-A.

Thirty-five Augusta McDonald's restaurants are testing three new items: the Mighty Chicken Sandwich, the Mighty Chicken Deluxe Sandwich, and the Mighty Chicken Tenders.

“Menu innovation is at the core of what we do at McDonald’s. This test reflects our commitment to respond to customers’ desires for more chicken offerings, including new distinct, delicious flavors,” said Linda VanGosen, McDonald’s Vice President of Brand and Menu Strategy, in a statement. “Our Mighty Chicken items have an irresistibly delicious profile.”

The three dishes are made of all white meat chicken and lightly breaded. The Mighty Chicken Sandwich also comes topped with two pickles. Oh, come on. That's definitely targeting Chick-Fil-A.

At any rate, you can get these juicy delights now, or you can sample them for free on March 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at one of the participating 35 Augusta restaurants.

“We’re excited for our Augusta customers to be some of the first in the country to test the Mighty Chicken Sandwich, Mighty Chicken Deluxe Sandwich and Mighty Chicken Tenders,” said Fred Kruckow, Augusta McDonald’s Owner/Operator, in a statement. “We look forward to hearing our customers’ response to these craveable chicken offerings.”
