Investigation: 6 area businesses operated illegal cash payout gaming machines

AUGUSTA, GA (WRDW/WAGT) -- A Richmond County man stands charged with illegally operating gambling machines in six area businesses.

According to the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, deputies alongside GBI, Georgia Lottery's Coin Operated Amusement Machine Division, and the District Attorney's Office filed warrants against James Ray Key, 58, on charges of commercial gambling and keeping a gambling place. Key is the owner of the businesses, investigators said.

Key, according to investigators, was targeted in an "extensive investigation" that focused on six convenience stores in Augusta.
