AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Each year thousands of people sign up for health club memberships all within the first month but Kenneth Sanders is no newbie.
Sanders says he’s been using the YMCA for a long time. "Oh, I don’t know, a little less than two years, maybe twenty months.”
YMCA crew members say by March, the drive their members had is gone so this year they're the ones making a change.
"As staff of the YMCA, we are engaging with members and potential members to help them feel like they belong and to feel that they can adapt that healthy lifestyle by setting realistic goals," says Tariq Robinson, Associate Director of Wilson YMCA.
They say they're also offering over seventy new classes and some old ones too like pickleball.
For some, pickleball is a religion. No matter if you're young or old anyone can play and it doesn't matter how athletic you are, fans say it’s all about fun.
It's not about becoming an Olympic athlete but finding something you enjoy.
"I'm pretty good, yes. Not great, not bad, I do okay...I have fun that's the main thing for me," Sanders says.
The YMCA says they expect about 2 to 3 thousand people to sign up in the month of January alone. Each year their numbers have increased.
