Greenbrier Middle School evacuated after small fire breaks out

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- Students are safe after a small fire caused a brief evacuation at Greenbrier Middle School Thursday afternoon.

A spokesperson with Columbia County schools says the fire was in a trashcan in the sixth-grade wing of the building.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office tells News 12 the fire was quickly extinguished by the school's security resource officer.

Students have returned to class and the rest of the day will go as planned.
