AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- A former employee of the Augusta Youth Development Campus (YDC) has been arrested on allegations of sexual misconduct.

TaKeisha Thompson, 39, or North Augusta, was a correctional officer at the YDC. She's charged with two counts of sexual assault and one felony count of violation of oath of office.

Investigators with the Department of Juvenile Justice say Thompson sexually assaulted a juvenile at the YDC in March 2018. Another employee tipped off officials before an internal investigation began.

“The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice remains committed to providing youth in our care with facilities that are safe and secure,” said Commissioner Avery D. Niles. “We will never tolerate nor turn a blind eye to any type of misconduct by our staff.”

Thompson was fired from YDC before the arrest.

With the charges listed, Thompson could be behind bars for one-to-25 years and pay a fine of $100,000 if convicted.
