AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRWD/WAGT) -- There are people here ready to bring in 2019. Many of them have already made their way to downtown Augusta.

It's hard not to have a good time on New Year’s Eve but bars and clubs in downtown Augusta are vying to be the center of it all.

From day to night near or far...

"I have people coming from Columbia and Swainsboro, just all over," said Kim Dubose, manager for Empire Night Club.

Whether you're pulling up a seat at your favorite bar, walking the red carpet or finding your spot on the dance floor, people are celebrating the New Year in a big way.

"Tonight we're gonna have some good drinks, good music, and have a lot of fun," said Boone.

He's a bartender at Soul Bar and New Year’s Eve has a special meaning for him.

"It's the first night I met with my now fiancé’," said Boone.

Notice how he said now, fiancé’? He popped the question just a few days ago.

"I proposed to her Christmas Eve, which is also her birthday,” said Boone.

The city of Augusta doesn't host its own citywide New Year’s event and hasn't for years, so bars and clubs are cashing in on the countdown.

"They're revamping downtown so us being down here I mean everywhere you go you want somewhere you can relax, chill out, and have a good time,” said Dubose.

This is Empire's second-ever New Year’s event and club manager Kim says she learned a very important lesson the first time around.

"No to the little poppers, clean up was a mess," said Dubose.

It's not too late to come down here. Empire and Soul Bar do have a cover but unlike some events, you don't need a special ticket to get in.

So if you're sitting at home you have plenty of time to make it here before the countdown.
