POLICE: Suspicious item actually athletic gear

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT)— Bomb squad officials give the ‘all-clear’ for what they called a suspicious item at the Goodwill on Washington Road.

Richmond County Bomb Squad Commander Bruce Williams told News 12 on scene the item was actually an old shot-put. The piece resembled a civil war cannon ball.


COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT)-- Columbia County investigators are trying to figure out what was left at the Goodwill on Washington Road. They found what they called a "suspicious item," which caused them to shutdown the parking lot.

Dispatch tells News 12, the report came in at 5:23 p.m. about something odd located at 4074 Washington Road. According to officials, they did not evacuate the store because it was already closed at the time the item was found.

Columbia County Sheriff's Office has not confirmed what the item could be. Deputies are still on scene investigating.
