BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) -- One person is dead after a crash early Saturday morning in Burke County.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office says they, along with EMA and Georgia State Patrol troopers, responded to the crash at Four Points Road and Old Waynesboro Road around 7:00 a.m. Saturday.

The driver of the vehicle, Alicia Smith, 33, was pronounced dead on the scene. The sheriff's office says speed and failure to maintain lane were factors in the crash.

Chief Deputy Lewis Blanchard is warning drivers about speed, asking them to slow down.

"Speed is the number one cause of crashes with injuries and fatalities in our county. If you get pulled over for speeding, don't ask for a warning because we have warned everyone repeatedly. This is our fourth fatality of 2019, three of which were single-vehicle crashes where speed was the primary contributing factor."
