South Carolina Representative Ronnie Young dies at 71

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT)--The South Carolina Republican party issued a statement on the death of Rep. Ronnie Young.

Chairman Drew McKissick wrote,

"Amy and I were saddened to hear about the passing of Rep. Ronnie Young. Ronnie was passionate about serving Aiken County, first as Aiken County Council Chairman and later as their representative to the State House. I was proud to call Ronnie a friend and enjoyed working with him to make South Carolina an even greater state. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Young family."


AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT)— South Carolina Representative Ronnie Young died Sunday morning, according to local reports.

Rep. Young, who represented District 84, just received the state’s highest honor, Order of the Palmetto. The 71-year-old lawmaker was battling cancer and had been in hospice care.

The South Carolina House GOP tweeted its condolences writing, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we hear about Rep. Ronnie Young’s passing this morning. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues.”
