AIKEN, SC (WRDW/WAGT) -- We have good news to share this afternoon as the dog-cat pair put up for adoption by a man entering an assisted living facility has been adopted!
All it took for Lynn Usry to adopt the pair was seeing their faces.
"One of my friends had shared that this bonded pair needed a home," Usry said. "I saw it, and I saw their little ol' eyes."
The pictures didn't just break Usry's heart. Their story did, too. The pair were put up by their old owner who couldn't bring them with him to the assisted living facility.
"I just feel like God put it on me to do it," Usry said.
But what about the old owner? We're told the old owner did not yet want to meet the new adopter because it was too tough for him to take at the moment.
"We contacted the owner this morning, and he is still very, very upset over having to be put in the situation and turn over his animals," adoption coordinator Hillary Clark-Kulis said. "It's something no one wants to be in."
Usry, meanwhile, said she understood and left him her telephone number in hopes of getting in touch whenever he is ready.
"I just hope that we would be relieved that someone would keep the pair together," Usry said.
While he settles into his new life, George and Fergus are settling in to theirs.
